(Boredom = Fake eyelashes)
Since I have nothing better to write about right now I’m going to tell you a little about where and what you can do on a night out here in Nairobi, because I’m a teenager and it would go against my nature to not go out and party now and then.
As you probably know by now I live by a lot of rules, rules that makes this place like more of a home for juvenile delinquents than “well behaved” young Swedes. To and from the parties we have to go in the school bus, it is really embarrassing to arrive at a party in a bus labeled “Swedish school”, makes us feel like we are 4 years old and on a school trip. And of course, the best rule of them all, we have to go home at 24.30, when everybody ells arrives at the party. YEAY.
Another rule is that we can only go to a couple of selected clubs, selected by the boarding, to male sure that they are extra boring… no some can be quite fun actually. Here is a little go through of the places we can go to:
Double in = Real fun, slightly run down place, perfect for those nights when the whole Swedish School goes out together. Not to many old disgusting dudes hitting on us either which is a definite plus and also the DJ is really nice and lets us play stupid Swedish music like Håkan Hellström now and then. To bad this place is going through a renovation and is at the moment closed.
Que Pasa? = Restaurant that turns into a nightclub after 10-11. Good food, old disgusting dudes during the early hours, young cute guys later (when we have to go home), big minus is just that we only get in if we are just a few students at a time.
The Loft = A nightclub that has events every week, only place where we have to pay to get in, usually only 12 year olds under 150cm that think that it is ok to hit on girls that are about 195 cm in heels… It is not! Now an then the nights at Loft have in some way become the best here though, due to being in the company of my dear friends here when they are in their best mood.
Gypsies = Never been there, is supposed to be a great place filled with loads of gay guys, which is very unusual since there is a death punishment for being gay here in Kenya. Planning to go there soon though.
Red Tape, Black Diamond and Havana = I describe these 3 places together since they are in the exact same neighborhood and since Red Tape and Black Diamond are door to door with each other which means we can go between them. Havana is a really cozy bar/restaurant where you can play pool or sing karaoke. Red Tape and Black Diamond are nightclubs; Black Diamond is probably the better one if I have to choose being that they have better music and is not completely deserted all of the time. A huge minus is all the hookers, and the old men buying the hookers, but face it T.I.A, it is impossible to run from it.
I think that is them all, except for of course Village Market, but we usually don’t go there to party, it is just a place to hang and play some bowling or sit and chat.
